Mix of the Week – DJ Hell

This weekโ€™s Decoded Magazine Mix of the Week comes from one of electronic musicโ€™s most uncompromising and influential figures โ€” DJ Hell. Recorded live at the intimate yet electric Bar Oriente in Mexico City, this set captures the unmistakable essence of a selector who has shaped underground music culture for over three decades.

Born Helmut Josef Geier, DJ Hell emerged from the Munich club scene in the early ’80s, cutting his teeth on a heady mix of punk, new wave, and proto-techno. As founder of the legendary International Deejay Gigolo Records, he was a pioneer of the electroclash movement in the late ’90s and early 2000s, fusing raw electronic textures with fashion, art, and a rebellious aesthetic that still defines his work today.

Known for his eclecticism and avant-garde flair, DJ Hell has graced the worldโ€™s most revered booths โ€” from Berghain to fabric โ€” and collaborated with fashion luminaries like Karl Lagerfeld and Donatella Versace. This mix from Bar Oriente is a perfect snapshot of his enduring magic: seductive, subversive, and endlessly stylish.
