Mix of the Week – Drunken Kong

This weekโ€™s Decoded Magazine Mix of the Week comes straight from Tokyoโ€™s legendary Womb nightclub, where Drunken Kong tore up the dancefloor during the 10th anniversary of Intention, and yes, itโ€™s just as banging as it sounds.

For those who donโ€™t know, Drunken Kong is the powerhouse techno duo made up of D. Singh and DJ Kyoko. Based in Tokyo, these two have been crafting sleek, melodic, high-energy techno since around 2010. Singh has a background in audio engineering and cut his teeth in LA before linking up with Kyoko back in Japan. Since then, theyโ€™ve made serious waves on the global techno circuit, especially through their killer releases on Christian Smithโ€™s Tronic label, including their albums The Signs Within and Where We Start.

The mix itself was recorded live at Womb, one of Tokyoโ€™s most iconic clubs. If you know techno, then you already know Womb is the place. Since opening in 2000, itโ€™s been a staple on the global club circuit, with a reputation for its monster sound system and next-level visuals. Everyone from Richie Hawtin to Jeff Mills, Sasha, and The Chemical Brothers have played there. Itโ€™s also a hub for Japanโ€™s best underground talent, making it the perfect setting for a proper anniversary blowout like this one.

Drunken Kongโ€™s set at Intention was full of deep grooves, hypnotic builds, and relentless energy, exactly what youโ€™d expect from two artists whoโ€™ve made Womb their spiritual home. If you want a taste of Tokyoโ€™s finest techno energy, this mix delivers.
