As the first chapter of the MODU:LAR story closes – the next one opens
Setting out on the basis of bringing together favourite elements of parties that MODU:LAR cofounders, Josh Boyd and Scott Grant had experienced over the years; the goal was to introduce new music with another approach to the burgeoning scene in Liverpool. Off the back of a series of seven successful dates since their launch back in March 2014; the team hosted six acts on debut appearances in the city, fresh up-and-coming artists embarking on their careers and a number of well-established figureheads of the underground house and minimal techno scene.
tINI (Desolat), Julian Perez (Fathers and Sons), Dan Andrei (a:rpia:r), Rhadoo (a:rpia:r) Ion Ludwig (UGold/ Trelik), Sander Baan (Rotate Berlin), Bella Sarris (Enter.) Jack Wickham (One Records), Isherwood (Lize Records), Sam Russo (Leftroom)
To celebrate their first year, the team is taking the opportunity to go back to their roots and host a special line-up that will provide a true musical masterclass from two greats of the business.
First on the bill and playing a debut performance for the UK outside of London, Fumiya Tanaka. Regarded as one of the true masters of minimal techno, Fumiya has carved out a presence at the forefront of electronic music over a period of almost 20 years and doesn’t show any signs of stopping soon. Fumiya helped to pioneer the introduction of techno to Japan in 1993 after a brief foray into house and hip-hop by founding his first label, Torema Records which introduced a range of stripped-back, funk-infused classics to the world and set the standard for what would become a defining sound throughout his long and fulfilled career.
Whether it was promoting heavy techno in the early 90’s with CHAOS in Japan; releasing a catalogue of music on seminal labels like Perlon & Tresor, supporting new talent through his own labels such as Sundance or for playing innumerable marathon sets alongside heroes like Ricardo Villalobos and Zip – Fumiya has become an iconic figurehead for underground music and they are immensely excited to see him behind the decks in Liverpool.

Ion Ludwig – Live
Ever since launching in March 2014, the team have had a long-running conversation about the right time to invite Ion Ludwig back to MODU:LAR. Despite lots of requests from local fans the promoters didn’t need convincing and so, Ion will take the crowd on another time (and mind) bending experience at the birthday party – one year on from his Liverpool debut.
Ion Ludwig has had an unbelievable year performing around the globe with ventures over to Japan, South America and to a myriad of locations across Europe. His ever-expanding collection of groundbreaking music continues to astound, as does a number of 5 hour-long live sets he’s been playing recently. Ion Ludwig is the true definition of an artist, he’s not one to miss.
