Moogfest started in 2004 in homage of Robert Moog, the inventor of the modern analog synthesiser. It began when Moog Music employee David Olivier contacted Charles Carlini, a New York-based promoter, to create an event honouring the companyโs 50th anniversary.
Almost like a mini music conference, this year sees the programming split over days and nights including talks, presentations, panels, workshops, and film screenings with futurist thinkers, inventors, engineers, designers, artists, entrepreneurs and musicians.Festival headliners include Giorgio Moroder and Laurie Anderson, Chic featuring Nile Rogers, New York rapper Le1f, Soul Clap, Green Velvet and many more. Up and coming acts get some space, too, as independent record labels such as Warp Records, DFA, Drifltless Recordings will host showcases of electronic musicโs rising stars.
Perhaps the epitome of the Moogโs spirit will be on display with a rare appearance from the German electronic act Kraftwerk, scheduled for three separate performances. This pioneering bandโs career spans decades and has influenced scores of musicians, starting with 80s new wave through the current day. Kraftwerkโs events will include synchronised 3D projections that create an immersive experience that illustrates the groupโs innovative spirit.
Line Up: Nighttime Performances Headlined by Three Kraftwerk 3D Concerts, Iconic Electro-Pop Duo Pet Shop Boys, Genre-Defying Producer Flying Lotus, Electronic Music Pioneer Giorgio Moroder and M.I.A.. Daytime Programming Led by Futuramaโs David X. Cohen, Super-Producer Nile Rodgers, and Janelle Monae, The ArchAndroid.
