My Favorite Robot is the duo of Jared Simms and Voytek Korab, two Canadian DJ/producers who in a space of a few short years have become a central part of the global electronic music scene.
Simms & Korab originally formed the My Favorite Robot act in Montreal back in 2002 and the label in 2008, shortly after Jared’s move to Toronto from Montreal. At the same time, the duo hooked up with the No19 Music crew and a new chapter in Canadian music history was born. Whilst their good friends at No.19 went on to form the massively successful Art Department, the boys at MFR worked alongside them building their own label into a global beacon for quality electronic music.
Their My Favorite Robot Records has received huge critical acclaim and has released music from the likes of Tim Paris, Jori Hulkkonen, Chloe, Michael J Collins, Kenny Glasgow, Fairmont, Phonogenic, Andrew Grant, & Tiger Stripes to name but a few. You can catch them with their label showcase “Crossing Wires” in Toronto July 22 [CODA], and Montreal July 23 [Piknic]We caught up with the trio briefly before their show last weekend in Miami to give us a run down of their favourite local Miami spots.
La Sandwicherie – 229 14th St, Miami Beach, FL 33139, USA
The obvious first stop when arriving in Miami for any logical, decent and hungry human being. So for us it’s usually a third or fourth. This place is just the best and you’re sure to run into someone from the scene almost every time.
Heart Nightclub – 50 NE 11th St, Miami, FL 33132, USA
This will be our first time playing this venue and we’re very honoured to do so. We’ve been to many events there in the past and it’s certainly one of Miami’s top nightlife venues.
Treehouse – 323 23rd St, Miami Beach, FL 33139, USA
We’ve always loved Treehouse. It’s the venue that we have played the most in Miami and every time it was a great experience. Both rooms have their own special feel and the parties there are always top notch.
Indomania – 131 26th St, Miami Beach, FL 33140, USA
A really delicious and super fun Indonesian food joint. Order a tasting menu or two and prepare to be buried under a pile of amazing food. The owner is a super nice and quirky guy that always comes around to chat up the tables and bum smokes.
11th Street Diner – 1065 Washington Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139, USA
A well known spot and for us it’s the perfect place to go for breakfast the morning after a long party night and no sleep. Nothing beats a proper diner for those occasions and this one is definitely that.
Art Basel Miami – Dec 7-10, 2017
The best time to visit Miami, especially if you’re a pasty Caucasian like us who fears the hot and dangerous sun of the summer months. It’s an incredible few days of small and large-scale art exhibitions, installations, films and performances not to mention amazing parties.
The Electric Pickle – 2826 N Miami Ave, Miami, FL 33127, USA
Another one of Miami’s many nightlife institutions. It was the first venue we played when we first got going and so it has a special place in our hearts. Always a great vibe and great music from international acts and Miami’s finest local artists.
A long stretch of land comprised of small granular-like pebbles conveniently located right by the ocean. The locals seem to congregate there to relax and swim. Make sure to wear long pants and long sleeved shirts and most importantly hiking boots as the ground there is extremely hot.
