Peter Makto & Gregory S, the Hungarian heroes of the underground, return to the illustrious Bondage Music with a superb EP which showcases their incredible attention to detail when it comes to making music that really stands out. The duo maintains a friendship that has lasted a lifetime and this friendship is certainly expressed throughout these tracks. There is absolutely no doubt as to their individual abilities, but when combined, there is no stopping these musical maestros.
‘Yes Sure’ gets things underway with a lovely groove made up from low toms and simple, but very rhythmic drums. A strange synth modulates at the forefront of the track, whilst well-processed vocals add a slice of mystique. This is one of those tracks the perfectly demonstrates that less is more. It feels spacious but full. Slightly stripped back, but without losing any complexities. A great start to the EP.
‘Kiraly’ takes us on a journey through the classical House world. A plucky bassline glides off the tail end of a pulsing, filtered stab. There is certainly an aura of distinct Detroit style influence, but with a uniquely modern twist. A consistent swell keeps things moving along and keeps interest high.
‘Ural’ is a little different and more focussed on a fun, enlightening melody. The simple low end is very effective in keeping the energy up, the rumble of the low frequencies is addictive and the crispness of the mix showcases Peter and Gregory’s talent at the mixdown stage. I am honestly in awe at how the duo have managed to create 3 seemingly simple tracks that have so much excitement contained within. Absolutely brilliant!
