Partners Francis Harris, Shane Davis, and Erik VanderWal have spent the past 2 years renovating 233 Butler Street, the original Brooklyn ASCPA headquarters, that most recently housed iconic vintage guitar shop Retrofret, into a multi-faceted music and social space. The building will feature 3 rooms— a hi-fi record bar showcasing rare record collectors alongside a thoughtfully conceived food and beverage menu, an intimate performance space (“the sound room”) featuring both live acts and vinyl leaning DJs with a highly ambitious sound system, and an all-day vegan café and magazine shop.

Both the bar and sound room will feature custom sound systems designed in collaboration between Devon Turnbull of OJAS and Jason Ojeda of VOID. Turnbull is known for combining vintage and contemporary components to create bespoke audiophile home audio systems in addition to his work with Saturdays Surf, Supreme, and LVMH. Each room will also feature custom built rotary mixers by Isonoe. International sound engineering powerhouse ARUP consulted on the acoustic design. Brooklyn based Nitemind on the lighting design.

The bar will feature nightly rare record collectors and weekly live experimental jazz curated by Rob Reddy. On occasion the bar will call upon larger acts to showcase their rare collections in an intimate setting, the first being Optimo who will play the bar Thursday March 21st in advance of their set in the sound room the following night. The sound room will focus on ambient and experimental live acts during the week and boundary pushing electronic acts on the weekends Each season will feature resident artist curators, first being Par Neiburger (World Music Institute), Thomas Bullock (A.R.E Weapons, Rub & Tug) Heathered Pearls and Queen Majesty.

Music programming is helmed by partner and acclaimed artist / producer Francis Harris, founder of local record labels Scissor & Thread and Kingdoms. Hospitality is overseen by partner Erik VanderWal, formerly with Keith McNally and Think Food Group. Design and creative direction is overseen by partner Shane Davis, founder of hospitality strategy firm whitebox collective.
