The annual Red Bull Music Academy kicks off in Paris this October and with anticipation reaching fever pitch the UK will bid adieu to their homegrown participants at Red Bull Music Academy presents Departure Lounge on 22nd October at The Arch Gallery in East London.
In a one off cultural exchange featuring French and UK DJs playing back-to-back, Hoya:Hoya don and 2010 Red Bull Music Academy alumni Illum Sphere joins Class of 2008 beatmaker Onra, Eglo Records head honcho Alexander Nut teams up with Parisian selector extraordinaire Jeremy Underground, and Cold Tonic boss Krystal Klear joins forces with fellow alumni and funk wizard Kool Clap, in an event that will fuse sounds from both sides of the Channel.
With its unique billing, Departure Lounge acts as a fond farewell, designed to excite and inspire UK Academy participants Corey K, Emma-Jean Thackray, and Hyroglifics for their onward journey to the Red Bull Music Academy in Paris. There they will join 58 other specially selected producers, vocalists, beat-makers, instrumentalists and DJs from over 36 different countries to learn from a team of world class studio mentors including; Modeselektor, Thundercat, Dorian Concept and Just Blaze.
Now in its 17th year, the Red Bull Music Academy runs from 25th October to 27th November, and will be based at La Gaîté lyrique in Paris’ 3rd Arrondissement. Across the five weeks the Academy will host a cutting-edge programme of music events, workshops, public lectures and art exhibitions with contributions from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Jean-Michel Jarre, Hudson Mohawke, Nicolas Godin (Air), Floating Points and John Talabot b2b Roman Flügel to name but a few.
