Happy Birthday to Mobilee! 10 years and still at the cutting edge of contemporary dance music. To celebrate Anja Schneider’s brilliant label comes this devilishly funky EP from Detroit legend Ray Okpara.

‘Rao Del Rani’ is everything I would expect from a man of Ray’s talents. Deep, vibrant and constantly in delightful flux, this kids, is REAL house music! From the opening salvo of groovy beats, sub bass and interesting off kilter FX, the track builds and builds with layers upon layers of finely tuned synth lines. I’m particularly drawn to the acidic line here ably manipulated by Ray for maximum dance floor carnage. This is one for a cross section of DJs to play. Utterly beguiling stuff.

Kenny Larkin, another legend takes Rays driving original into a totally different wacky direction. Rhode keys, and organs play off each other to create a more subtle groove befitting a warm up kinda set. If Im honest, its not for me at all, but if you like your tracks psychedelic and totally off the wall, head for this.

Closing out the EP is ‘Close To Me’. Again we’re greeted with a deep heavy beat and acid flecks which add drama and tension. This is a groover from the outset, and although the track stays pretty flat, I barely notice 2 mins pass. The break at 2.30 adds the ‘close to me’ vocal snippet and more tantalising acid. I can’t wait to hear this on a big system absolutely annihilate the room!

What a way to celebrate 10 years at the top, with a broody acid house monster!
