Title: Universal Love EP
Cat No: ELV23
Pig & Dan’s latest release on their Elevate label is titled Univeral Love, and it consists of 3 pieces of melodic techno that is not that dissimilar to the eclectic anthems they used to put out years ago…
First up on the release is “Universal Love” which starts off as a filtered low end, and a vocal snippet that is repeated through the track. The track has a superb bassline that helps set the mood for this dark melodic monster of a track. It isn’t too long before you start to hear the ethereal keys twinkling away in the distance, and soon becoming the main focus of the track. The track continues to build into the break which is a sublime melodic break that would not be amiss in any Sasha or Digweed set. What a way to open a release!
The second track on the release, “Lizard King” is another slab of techno which begins its life very much in the way of the previous track. It’s not long before you begin to realise this is going to be another driving techno track filled with that signature subsonic Pig & Dan bass. The claps and percussion sit perfectly, as the mood builds, and the melody continues to penetrate through your mind until you are totally immersed in techno joy. It’s another one of those tracks that the “hands in the air” crowd will be loving! Great track!
The final track on the EP is “Bambola”, and from the off it is clear this is a track that is slightly pitched down compared to the others but that is by no means a negative. The build ups and drops aren’t as intense as the previous two tracks but the keys that kick in about mid way through the first break are sublime, and create an almost progressive feel to this techno track. Some delay is used on the keys which only add great subtle moments… I would love to hear this on a big sound system. Devine!
Another good release from Pig & Dan, and probably my favourite of recent years. The pair have such a unique way of fusing techno and progressive together. Go check it out folks!!!
