Review: Sasha returns with his first single in four years

Label: Last Night On Earth
Catalogue Number: LNOE037
Release Date: Out Now!
Genre: Tech House/Techno

It has been a little while since I last listened to a Sasha original production. In fact I think it has been about 4 years since Sasha last ventured out on his own, and in true Sasha style he has made an entrance with this release.

First up on the release we have the original of ‘Vapourspace’ which is a moody tech house/techno number that would not be out of place in those dark dingy club basements with a heads down crowd. I am not sure if it is an intentional move by the man but it is a shift from the sound that has brought its critics in the past, and a move from the sound that people associated with his last Involver CD. The track sits in the middle ground of tech house and techno, and holds a superb steady and dark groove with some well placed drum hits, and well processed hi hats and cymbal rides. The track seems to progress effortlessly and the growl from that moody bassline becomes ever more prominent throughout, as it builds in an almost aggressive manner. This is a track that would just sound amazing in the main room at Space, Ibiza and I would love to see the crowd react to this! The break strips things back down before the build begins once again, and continues to take its listeners on that outer space like mission! I really like what Sasha has done with this track, and for me is a fine example of Sasha on fine form in the studio.

The second track on the release is an intro version of ‘Vapourspace’ which takes that ethereal low end bass that is prominent throughout the original, and turns it into a beatless version. Simple but it is a very useful tool that could be used as an intro, outro, or just a mid-set tool that could be laid over other tracks or used to create your own break. As you can probably tell I am a sucker for a good DJ tool, and this is very useful indeed. Thank you Sasha!

This release is a great return by the man known as Sasha, and this will certainly make some of his harshest critics take a step back and think twice. Go and check this out folks, you will not be disappointed!
