For its next release, Superfreq turns to one of the key people involved with the brand since its inception 11 years ago, namely Xo Chic aka Mr.C’s wife. Xo Chic is a DJ (and one half of the famous Dollz At Play duo), promoter and conceptual stylist who has always helped to keep the visual identity of Superfreq ahead of the game. Now her music (complete with remixes from Alexi Delano, Mr.C and Affie Yusuf) is sure to do the same. The title is taken from the fact she is always late (very late!) The words were written by Xo Chic’s co- writer Sheldon Salmiery and gives rise to an amusing and entertaining production that is surely the start of big things to come.

The original track is loosely based around an 80s Electro vibe full of post punk attitude and industrial synths. It will work very well on the cooler floors and shows why Superfreq has lasted so long in such a cut throat industry. The bass line feels very ‘Eats Everything’ and fits neatly alongside the skippy beats. A very accomplished original.

First up on remix duties is the talented Alexi Delano. The swedish techno pin up takes the track in a more conventional four to the floor direction, stripping back the layers to create a very useable mid set big room house number. The vocals are minimal and he relies very much on the strong synth lines from the original

Second is Mr Xo Chic! His interpretation is similar to his wives rendition in its otherworldliness. As ever with a Mr. C production, funk and attitude are every much at the forefront of his mind and this is no exception. The drums and acidic bass lines nestle together to create a classic acid house groove which is becoming an emerging trend among the more underground producers of late. Drop this at the right time, with the right crowd and stand back. Fireworks assured!

Affie Yusuf makes the brave move to make this track even more sci-fi and out there. Weird effects and wobbly acid squelches fill your headphones and create a magical sonic landscape. The beats are deep and the percussion is razor sharp cutting through low end fuzz. A great remix which not only adds to the original idea, but rounds off a good package for an ever consistent label.
