Secretsundaze compile their Barcelona city guide ahead of OFFSónar

On Friday 15th June 2018 the OFFSónar party week will see the return of Secretsundaze to the stunning Carpa & Picnic Area of Poble Espanyol for the first time since 2015. The event will see a signature Secretsundaze lineup sound-tracking an open-air setting upon one of the most scenic locations in Barcelona.

After a momentous year of releases on Hinge Finger and Toss Portal, Joy Orbison returns to bring his individual take on house and techno, with depth in his rhythmic approach that few others can meet. Although the volume of his output is not as high as others, he lives as the embodiment of quality of quantity. Moving from strength to strength, Dekmantel Soundsystem will join the lineup to demonstrate their ability to not only create forward thinking festival programming, but forward thinking music programming as well. With tastes as eclectic as their lineups, this will be a set sure to impress. Co-founder of the integral Rush Hour Music and a Secretsundaze regular, Antal brings the benefits of his crate digging addiction for us all to enjoy. Weaving together threads from a wide-ranging body of music, his selections never fail to surprise. Steven Julien aka Funkineven heads up the influential Apron records, walking the ever so delicate line between house and techno, accessible and experimental, music for heads and feet within his own output and through his label. Always welcome at Secretsundaze events, he consistency in performance is only matched in his unpredictability. South-African born DJ, booking agent, label boss, promoter, and general all-round amazing human Lakuti makes her long-awaited Secretsundaze debut. Although most prolific for her London event series Sud Electronic, her path was set growing up in apartheid-era South Africa: forever inspiring her to bring together people through music – a goal we are more than happy to indulge at Secretsundaze. Rounding out our OFFSónar lineup is the infectiously enthusiastic Byron The Aquarius, equally loved by crowds worldwide as he is by titans of house Theo Parish and Kyle Hall. Seeking a return to music made with love and soul, Byron is an accomplished jazz musician and perfect for an evening under the Mediterranean sky.

Ahead of the showcase Secretsundaze share some of their personal favourite hot spots in this Barcelona city guide exclusively for Decoded Magazine.

Cafe / Restaurant: Bar Canete

Just a stones throw from Las Rambla, Bar Canete is a vibrant, buzzy tapas restaurant. Sit by the bar for the best vibe and eat the croquetta’s, tuna tartare and suckling pig. It gets busy so make sure to reserve a spot. Definitely the spot of our most memorable meal in Barcelona.

Bar / Drinking Spot: Antic Teatre

This is a great hidden gem in a courtyard under trees and next to a theatre in El Born. It’s not easy to find but once you do, it’s the perfect spot to sit back and sip on a drink and lose a few hours. Perfect for early evening after a day on the beach!

Museum / Sites Cultural Activity: Joan Miro Foundation

Considered one of the greatest museum buildings in the world and in perfect synergy with the art contained inside the museum’s permanent collection displays Miro’s trademark colourful, simple forms. Essential.

Favourite Spot To Soak Up the Views / Go for a Wonder: The Carmel Bunkers

The Carmel Bunkers is one spot where you get a 360 view of Barcelona that is simply amazing! It also has a great history as it was once the site for an antiaircraft warfare to protect the city form the Italian fascist invasion and then later a shanty town before being transformed into its current status as a viewpoint.

Wild Card: Aire Ancient Baths

This beautifully designed candlelit spa is the perfect place to really unwind and indulge with hot stone chill out areas, hammam, salt baths, jacuzzi’s and steam rooms and many pampering treatments available. Highly recommended!
