Selador launches Collaborations series with Cattaneo, Seaman, Pappa, Funk D’void and more

Collaboration is where artists show their hand. Two producers in a room, or two hard drives passed back and forth, each pushing the other somewhere neither would have gone alone. The results tell you more about a producer than a dozen solo releases ever could.

That, at least, is the Selador view. Partners in rhythmic crime, driven by mutual respect and a shared appetite for ideas, stretching one another to the creative limit. For the ten tracks on this first volume of the new Collaborations series, the label has dug into every nook and cranny of the Selador catalogue, traversing the years, mixing the genres and pulling together a set that plays as a proper journey rather than a compilation of loose ends.

It opens with Hernan Cattaneo and Dave Seaman on Napkin Knowledge, seven and a half minutes of the patient, unhurried progressive house both men have spent careers refining. Steve Parry and Luke Brancaccio follow with Control Machine, tougher and more mechanical, before Timanti and Just Her bring vocal warmth to Other Side.

Anthony Pappa and Jamie Stevens take the longest run on the record with Where We’ve Gone, nearly nine minutes of Australian craft, while Quivver and Funk D’void trade in the murkier end of things on Dual State. Guy Mantzur, Lonya and Adam G make it a three way on Dynasty, and Dee Montero and Aya darken the mood considerably with Fade into Noir.

Stellios Vassiloudis and Nils Nuernberg deliver the most expansive moment here in Eyes Turned Skyward, Edone and Pakk sharpen the edges on Dangerous, and Darksidevinyl and Tommy Wahl close proceedings with the percussive Yaunde.
