Soundcloud has announced today the introduction of ‘On Soundcloud’ – a creator partner program that looks to directly reward content creators who sign up or even pay to subscribe to the additional service.
The new plan looks to monetise streams and eventually inject adverts into the platform to incentivise the big content creators (ie: major labels and artists) on Soundcloud with returns to those who drive anywhere between hundreds of thousands to millions of plays each and every day. (in other words, major labels) This of course can be seen as a way of appeasing the major labels who have been circling Soundcloud for sometime now with copy-right claims and removing content.
We are at Decoded are still to hear more information from Soundcloud regarding this move, as advertising in mixes or tracks can be seen as the death of Soundcloud for the Dance Music community. Who would like their favourite mix interrupted by adverts? More detail about On SoundCloud and the new creator partner program can be found at http://on.soundcloud.com/ overview or we have broken it down for you below.
On SoundCloud has three tiers: Partner, Pro and Premier.
The Partner tier is for you if youโre just getting started: itโs free and easy to join the community, share your first track, receive feedback and get basic stats.
The Pro Partner level is a paid offering if youโre ready to take the next step On SoundCloud. Pros get more upload time, advanced tools, features like Spotlight and detailed stats. As an added benefit, at the Partner and Pro levels, weโve increased upload time by 50% โ youโll get it automatically if you already have a Pro or free account.
At the Premier partner level, creators will have the opportunity to make money from their tracks through advertising. It also includes Pro features and more benefits. At launch, entry to the Premier tier is by invitation. Monetization occurs only on content when itโs played in the US. Weโll open up the program to more creators and more countries as fast as we can.
The introduction of advertising is an important step for creators. Every time you see or hear an ad, an artist gets paid. If youโre in the US, youโll start to experience occasional ads from our brand partners. Weโre bringing ads on gradually. In addition to supporting creators, ads will keep the service free and open for people to listen to SoundCloud.
Creators have been at the heart of SoundCloud from the beginning. As we continue to develop our creator partner program we will bring you more tools, support, offerings and opportunities. We canโt wait to hear what you create On SoundCloud!
