This first release from Nick Warren’s new The Soundgarden label, sees The Soundgarden brand further growing and evolving from its well-established club nights, bi- monthly radio show and compilation series, into a forward thinking label at the forefront of cutting edge electronic music.
Moscow-based trio Tantsui provides the perfect release to launch the label with, the two tracks have a very special, unique sound — charming, interesting, melodic, but still groovy and dancefloor-friendly. The release sets the bar high and is a bold statement from a new label with lots of exciting music to share over the coming months and years.
The Soundgarden label promises to be a true home for exceptional talent, spearheaded by electronic pioneer Nick Warren, as he continues to push the envelope further.
UK Editor Simon Huxtable recently sat down with Nick over a coffee to find out a little more…
Nick! Long time no speak, how the devil are you? Tell us about the new The Soundgarden label, sounds exciting…
I have always wanted to have a label that stays more on the fringes of the dance floor. With Hope Recordings, we have the dancefloor covered but I am sure lots of you will be aware of my love for the more eclectic sounds of Electronica. That will be my focus with the Soundgarden. We have some really exciting releases coming up, starting with Tantsui’s “Around the River” EP which is out on June 3rd!
I know you’ve been the A&R for Hope, have you left them now to do this?
No, not at all! The two labels will be running alongside. Hope Recordings is going strong and we have a great release from Black 8 coming very soon.
I’ve had a chance to hear the first release. It’s just sensational mate, where did you find Tantsui?
Who do you have lined up for the label release wise? I’m sure you must get sent 100s of tracks a week…
I do get sent a lot of amazing music. I have a great track from Joey Farenbach which I am remixing in collaboration with Tripswitch and also lovely mid-tempo stunner from Verche which I’m really excited about.
Sounds like you’re going to have your hands full with all this. Who do you have in the background to help?
My partner Petra is my right arm in everything I do. She is the brand manager for the Soundgarden and is a key to the business.
Well, it’s great to hear you’re doing well Nick if there’s anything I can do to help, give us a shout eh!?
