Strata – A new way to play with Ableton Live

There are plenty of Ableton Live controllers on the market already, but Strata is different from all of them. Well, this is what Envision Sound, Technologies is telling us via their Kickstarter.

The combination of pads, button and knobs might look familiar but Envision says that thanks to the use of a control surface script, which sits between the controller and Live, Strata can do things that its rivals simply cannot.

To make its case, the company has put together a comparison with Push 2, Ableton’s own Live controller. The takeaway is that, rather than being used to launch clips, create sequences and play notes, Strata is “a menu of modes and options, track selectors, and mixer controls”.

According to their Kickstarter, “Strata is made for Pros, but anyone could learn it. It’s far more than a MIDI controller. It’s a system. It’s a method.”

If you want to test the workflow for yourself, you can sign up to receive a software version. If you want to buy a Strata, pledges start at $450 on the Envision Sound, Technologies Kickstarter page.
