A Techno Compilation for your winter collection

Funk’n Deep Records celebrate their first year anniversary with a bumper crop of international artists coming together to showcase exactly what has gotten the label such an army of loyal fans. The compilation features cuts from established artists like Ant Brooks, Matt Sassari and D-Unity, which sit neatly alongside label stalwarts Jamie Fullick & DurtySoxx, giving an album of killers not fillers!

Since forming, Funk’n Deep’s success has snowballed to a point now where they can boast regular appearances in the charts of big name acts on Techno scene. A top class list of regular contributors, due in no small part to the way, in which they personally nurture and support to artists under their banner.

From the opening cut by Elay Lazutkin throughout to Active Line Six’s incredible ‘Exotique’, a quality oozes from each record. Next up  is a very much recognised name on the scene Matt Sassari with a deep grooving cut perfect for a warm up set. The album continues to deliver tracks of a rolling percussive nature, which has now become synonymous with Funk n Deep. Having made a few techno tracks myself, I know just how much work is required to not only maintain the energy in the track, but to also make them sound contemporary and unique. As we move towards the mid point things are taken up a notch to a heavier more darker sound appropriately called ‘Industrial’ by Roman Garnet.

As I continue towards the second half of the album it becomes clear that Mike Ly has really pulled together an excellent level of quality artists with each one bring something different to the labels table. Personal favourites of the collection for me are Joe Mesmar ‘Something to Differ’ with its relentless groove and dubby effects, Jamie Fullick ft. Shane Fontane’s tribal monster ‘Xtasy’ and the insanely groovetastic ‘Poke Her Face’ by Durtysoxxx & Dhyan Droik.  All in all this a solid VA compilation throughout, but as a regular listener to the label I would have expected nothing less.

Fans of the genre and DJs alike will surely find a few winter warmers in amongst this smorgasbord of talent! Merry Techno from one and all!
