Daz Pearson, from Stourbridge near Birmingham, UK is an Underground House Music DJ and Global Events Manager at Thisisprogressive. It was with UK house brand FunkDelux he confirmed his first residency in Jan 2009 being fortunate to play and host events in the UK and Europe. Within 5 months he was playing on the FunkDelux Ibiza Tour for Fiesta del Agua at Es Paradis, Bar M and Judgement Sundays @ Eden. This was the starting block he built from capitalizing on experience and on-going learning curves faced within the industry to present day.
Following his residency he then turned his hand to Co Promoting for FunkDelux at The Glasshouse, Stourbridge which was running twice monthly for 16 months while booking and playing alongside various headline DJs including Vicky Devine (Judgement Sundays), Sonny Wharton and Deep City Soul to name a few. By April 2010 he became Co-Owner and was sub promoting and DJing at Ministry of Sound London, Pacha London, Gatecrasher Birmingham with Paul Oakenfold & Gatecrasher Nottingham for Sander van Doorn’s From Dusk Till Doorn Tour. In June 2010 he returned to Ibiza running the FunkDelux Tour he was asked to play on the previous year with sets at Bora Bora, Ibiza Rocks Bar and Co-hosting at Vicky Devine’s Charlys Angelz at Play2. Returning to the UK other gigs included Cream Classics @ The Custard Factory, Birmingham and Smartie Partie at The Lightbox, London.
He then returned to Ibiza in June 2011 to play at the BE opening party in the Red Box at Space, the seasons residency of Armin Van Buuren. Later that year he was booked to play for Manchester brand RUDE on their 17th Birthday at Sankeys with Jason Herd (Subliminal Records) and again for Size Matters later in the year. Other acclaimed events also included the house room at the O2 Academy Bristol for Ben Nicky’s Lifeline alongside Judge Jules, The Thrillseekers, Lange and Mat Zo, It was here he met now A+R manager at Thisisprogressive, Simon Huxtable. However, it was New Year’s Eve when he co-hosted the main bar at the iconic Q-Club Birmingham for a brand most of his inspirations had come from – Global Underground & Saved Records which gave him the great pleasure to play on the same billing as James Zabiela, Nic Fanciulli, Jon Rundell, Derrick Carter and Audio Bullys.
In February 2012 he released a mix entitled Rooted Deeply which quickly became an on-going monthly mix series incorporating tech house, deep house, progressive house and melodic techno taking his past inspirations and combining them with current trends in the underground house scene. It was these mixes which gave him the mind-set to go against the grain of commercial consumerism and make a stand against the so called EDM wave. Each mix in the series showcases between 90 minutes and 3 hours of all styles of house and techno, not because Beatport said they were charted in the top 100, but because he listened and trawled for hours trying to find a sound of quality, uniqueness, timeless music which wouldn’t be forgotten just as quickly as it was produced, but also to try and educate people into finding new, intelligent music themselves. Within a few months came a turning point when he took the opportunity to join the DJ roster of Musicology, a brand originating from Australia alongside a whole host of international DJs. It was here a strong musical bond was formed with Owner/Director Damion Pell, months later the concept for Thisisprogressive was born, helping to spread the ethos of Rooted Deeply on a much wider and global scale alongside a team with just a strong passion and mind-set as his own. The rest, as they say is history.
