Decoded Magazine is proud to co-host a room together with our own Jaap Ligthart at De Ultieme Kerstrave (The Ultimate Christmas Rave, Facebook event | Ticket link) the 26st of December in Schagen, the Netherlands. We handpicked the best DJs / producers / live acts from all across Holland and came up with this pretty awesome lineup:
Meet Rob Hes, one of the brightest new stars on the techno horizon. His sound can be described as raw, energetic but very musical at the same time. He is one of those artists where you immediatly recognise his work as being his, without him repeating a few signature tricks over and over again.
Rob has drawn the attention of the global techno scene big time lately, but newcomer might not be the best way to describe this multi talent. With more than 10 years of studio experience and countless releases under different aliases under his belt, this is definitely one of those raw diamonds that has remained hidden for far too long. But don’t worry, with recent releases on Oliver Huntemann’s ‘Ideal Audio’, Christian Smith’s ‘Tronic’, John Digweeds’ infamous ‘Bedrock’ label and his upcoming release on Dubfire’s ‘Sci+Tec’, he’s getting more eyes on him every time his music hits the stores.
What do Max Cooper, Hernan Cattaneo, John Tejada, Henry Saiz, Eelke Kleijn, Hybrid, Fairmont, Umek, Tigerskin, Gabriel Ananda, Microtrauma, Jesper Dahlback, Matador, Avus, Applescal, Guy J, Ryan Davis and Phonique all have in common? They have all released music on Paul Hazendonk’s Manual Music label, giving you a first impression of what this allround music lover is all about.
Born in the suburbs of Rotterdam in the early eighties, Paul Hazendonk already developed an excessive interest for music at a young age. After seeing a documentary about one of the early editions of the Mystery Land festival he found his passion and bought his first DJ equipment at age twelve.
After winning various local DJ contests in his teens, he secured his first club gigs by the time he turned eighteen and his first international gigs followed not long after. In his early twenties Paul was a resident DJ at infamous Dutch clubs Las Palmas (Rotterdam) and Asta (The Hague), whilst being a regular guest at clubs and festivals all over Europe. Throughout the years he has performed in more than 20 countries worldwide.
Martijn van Dijk better known as Alessandro Diga, is a dutch artist living in Breda. His music can be characterized as pigheaded, innovative, bold, vivacious, but most of all melodic. In the past years Diga produced music in different directions, but always melody predominated.
This enabled him to release tracks on labels such as: Manual Music, Inlab Recordings, Perspectives & Cinematique. Which resulted in arrived artists like Nuno dos Santos, Adam Beyer, Joseph Capriati, Roland M. Dill, Pig & Dan, Hernan Cattaneo, Laurent Garnier & Moonbeam playing his tracks.
Diga’s releases did not go unnoticed, and gave him the opportunity to play at clubs and festivals. Examples are; Sysophos (Berlin DE), Barkode (Amsterdam NL), Westerunie (Amsterdam NL), Lakedance (Aquebest NL), Fort de Vechten (Bunnik NL), Club Poema (Utrecht NL).
Jaaps parents failed miserably at one thing, music. Years and years exposed to horrifying (Dutch language) music, poor Jaap discovers electronic music years later… As of then Jaap found his passion. He listened to sets, mix cd’s and radio recordings of Tiësto, Carl Cox, Sven Väth, Sasha, John Digweed, everything he could get his hands on. Not much later he started buying vinyl, and this time no vinyl with Dutch music!
Nowadays the world is getting to know his music… For example by guestmixes in numerous broadcast on Radio 538 (the number 1 radiostation in The Netherlands), guestmixes in Dennis Ruyers Dance Department (March and June 2011) and Tiësto’s Club Life (July 2010).
His productions (original tracks, remixes, bootlegs) played lots of times by the world’s big time dj’s. Artists like Sasha, John Digweed, Tiësto, Dave Seaman and Jody Wisternoff (Way Out West) are playing Jaaps productions over and over again and are dying to play his new stuff every time.
Riqeau is one of Alkmaar’s new rising stars. Relatively new to the scene, he made some big waves already. With many cool gigs on his calendar and a lot of upcoming productions, keep your eyes on this guy in the near future.
