The 38th in Stripped’s Free Series brings you Lithuanian duo Kastis Torrau & Arnas D who teamed up to enter a Crosstown Rebels Remix competition for Ali Love’s “Emperor” track. They didn’t reach the heady heights of winning but this remix was more than worthy we think.
“Kastis Torrau & Arnas D’s musical “failures” (If I can call it that) tend to result from the public’s palate not being as broad as their own. Same as many previous occasions, this isn’t the case either with their remix of the world wide hit – “Emperor” by Ali Love feat. Kali. XXX is on red-hot form right now for releasing this one, right in the middle of summer when people need no particular reason to rave.
Both Arnas D & Kastis Torrau go straight for the kill by pulling out the beatiest and most dramatic aspects of the original and turning it into the best kind of sweaty basement jackfest. They alternate passages of head-down, hips-moving in to shuffling the shoulders moment with the warm as toast bass promising eyes-closed, chest-out melodic swooning. The echoed up vocalism tug on the head as much as the feet. Adding groovier, harder beats and dialing up the acid a little and the end result; pleasant hypnotics, there’s dollops of sway and atmospherics that make this one gleeful in comparison to the original. Accompanied by a sting in the tail, with a lovely little shaker sound that comes in with the bassy squirts, snappy snares and clipped, steady clip clop of the percussives. One thing’s for sure, this rework stands up in the list that will get repeated plays, with enterprising DJs looking for something to throw as their main weapon. What’s more, the remix will sound as good at a outdoor format, as much as indoors. Great stuff!!” – Review by Priya Sen (Decoded Magazine)
Now on the eve of Kastis’ releasing his remix of Rebel One “On My Own” (which also features a Dubspeeka Remix) on Stripped Digital (May 25).
