The Red Bull Music Academy announced that the application process for their Paris Academy 2015 has opened, coinciding with the release of Not For Sale: Red Bull Music Academy Tokyo 2014. This year’s free compilation is comprised of 35 solo and collaborative tracks produced at 2014’s Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo.
To apply for the Paris edition, download the application form and follow the instructions. Please note that all applications must be postmarked by March 4, 2015, and music makers must be at least 18 years of age by October 24th, 2015. The Red Bull Music Academy 2015 will take place in Paris from October 25 – November 27.
The Red Bull Music Academy is custom-built to make the most of the participants’ time, energies and ideas. In 2014’s Shibuya HQ, one floor was dedicated to eight custom-built studios and an equipment library – ceiling-high stacks of synths, keyboards, instruments, drum machines and other circuitry madness – all at their fingertips 24/7.
The main studio was situated on the ground floor, home to string sessions and studio tutorials helmed by the likes of James Holden, Michael Jackson string arranger Benjamin Wright Jr., and acclaimed conductor Grant Windsor – the man behind BBC Radio 1 DJ Benji B’s string ensemble collaborations. The tutors were joined by a variety of studio mentors – a heady list that included Dorian Concept, Om’Mas Keith, Carl Craig, Mathew Jonson, and dBridge – who helped provide guidance to the participants and, in some cases, joined in the collaborative atmosphere to see what sort of magic happened when participants engaged in an open sonic dialogue.
Vocalists darted between studios to lay down hooks, beats were chopped and swapped, and tracks grew through the late nights and honest words. In collating nearly three hours of original music, Various Assets – Not For Sale is not just a series of tracks, but a living, breathing document of what the Red Bull Music Academy is about: taking your own ideas, and then leaping into the unknown.
