SoundCloud to limit tracks streamed via API to 15,000 plays per day

SoundCloud will soon introduce streaming limits outside of its network. Starting July 1, any track hosted on the service will be limited to 15,000 streams in a 24 hour period.

The limitation wonโ€™t affect tracks played directly on Soundcloud โ€” only those played via a third-party app. To enforce the new playback rule, SoundCloud is instituting a 15,000 play request limit on their API.

SoundCloud says itโ€™s โ€œdealing with an increasing number of applications that abuse creator contentโ€ and thinks the API limit will help.

Itโ€™s an interesting move for SoundCloud, which is facing incoming fire from Apple Music, which has a feature called โ€˜Connectโ€™ that is similar to SoundCloudโ€™s upload feature.

Note: SoundCloud got back to us โ€” this limit only affects its API, not embedded streams. SoundCloud also says the change will affect a small number of Developers.
