Exciting news from the LA underground dance scene as Anton Tumas, Head of Subtract Music, unveils plans to expand his incredible Subtract parties even more. He has selected three of the finest house and techno DJs North America has on offer, two of which he recently named in a press statement, LA residents Matt Xavier and Tara Brooks. A third as yet un-named international DJ is being announced at a later date.
The parties have been running for about 2 years now. Born out of a frustration of poorly run events with bad sound, Anton and the Subtract family decided run a series of events aimed at putting the music first and monetary gain second. The parties began as intimate social gatherings with friends where Anton could showcase great music in a relaxed environment for people to dance, enjoy themselves and be free, which the returning crowds really appreciated. That has spiralled into a fully fledged night with the cream of LA regularly appearing. Over the next 12 to 18 months Subtract will be developing into a regular event concept from its home base at Ristorante Al Mare on Santa Monica Pier across LA.
DJ, Label Manager and Promoter, Anton got his big break (!) at the Miami Winter Music Conference 2005. On a nine day blowout, he broke his leg dancing in Space to Deep Dish. During his recuperation, a bored Anton learned to mix and quickly began to be booked for gigs. A few years later he began Subtract Music to showcase the great music he was finding and following Guy J’s incredible remix of prog house classic ‘Forme’ by Gwill Morris and with the wind behind him, he began to throw some parties. That has lead on to some bigger events like his subDISTRIKT stage at Lightning In A Bottle and LA Burning Man Decompression. Apart from the big venues, Anton is also hosting smaller, more intimate parties showcasing local and international talent as well as his residency for LA’s longest running weekly club night – Monday Night Social. Anton is a DJs DJ; happiest in the booth rocking a crowd with his mixture of underground vibes.
Having been recently entrusted to open Minilogues last ever tour in San Francisco, Matt really knows how to tell a story. Matt Xavier’s relationship with electronic music began in 1993 at Manhattan’s most infamous downtown rave-club, NASA. Soon after he began promoting for New York’s Caffeine club where he met friend and confidante Michael “Blackwatch” Thomas. Together the two formed “Island Vibe Network” and began organising art & music events at illegal warehouse locations throughout the Tri-State area. Matt became most well known for his involvement with the Psy-Trance scene and following a 4 year residency with ’Tsunami Productions’ his attention turned to production as ‘Gruvhaus’; a short lived moniker for his psychedelic house and techno productions. Matt has also worked in the offices of Railyard Recordings with long time friend Sean Palm. Following their relocation to Berlin, Germany in 2007, Matt returned to the US to begin his role as Music Director and resident DJ for Compression: one of Los Angeles’ most influential techno organisations. Matt’s sonic journey continues…
