Happy 1st Birthday to This Is Progressive! What a year it has been. We have learnt many things along the way from our original site and thoughts, to where we are now. Over the last 12 months, we have been privileged to interview and host over 145 guest mixes from the likes of Dave Seaman, Darren Emerson, Tim Penner, Jewel Kid, Tim Andresen, John O’Connor, Navar, Anthony Yarranton, NHB, Miss Mants, Ellie Pettersson, Hypnotized, Oliver Lieb, C-Jay, Paul Hazendonk, Manuel De La Mare, Dale Middleton, Piemont and so many more with over 104 000 plays on soundcloud. We are humbled to be embraced and supported by the music industry from labels, distributors, promoters, DJs, PR, festivals, conferences, bars and clubs with continual words of encouragement. Most of all, you. Thank you for the support who enjoy the music and articles.
Over the last year, we have been looking to the future of TIP and what features we can add, articles one might like to read or artists to share their music and it quickly became apparent that although we cover all styles from house to techno to breaks and yes, progressive, that in some quarters of the industry, we were stigmatised on only ever being about progressive house, not about us wanting to progressing music and industry as a whole. Unfortunately, the term progressive has been bastardised over many years from the EDM scene, aided by Beatport’s lack of correct genre placement, but we never let that get to us, until now.
Our team has spent countless hours and endless nights to come together and devise how we can expand into new areas and offer news services. From July 14th, we will be rebranding to the new name of Decoded Magazine with a stack of news features, services, music styles, articles, events and a new website. As part of our re-launch, all through-out July, we will be handing over the keys to former Godskitchen resident and Ultraviolet label owner – Paul Thomas to be our guest Editor. With releases on : Steve Angello’s SIZE Records, Positiva, Data, Toolroom Records, Doorn Records, Sander Kleinenberg’s Little Mountain Recordings, Ultra, Baroque Records, Gareth Emery’s Garuda, Hotfingers, Spinnin’ Records, 303lovers…the list goes on and on. His golden remix touch has been requested for releases by legends like Basement Jaxx, Chicane, Underworld, Josh Wink, D Ramirez & Mark Knight, Sebastien Leger & Deadmau5, and he’s collaborated with Mark Knight, Funkagenda, Jerome Isma-Ae and Manuel De La Mare amongst others.
He’s firmly established himself as a leading name in the wider sphere of house music across the globe thanks to all this, and the small matter of 9 separate Beatport genre Top 10 successes. His Ultraviolet track in Toolroom hit the No.1 spot in the Progressive Chart (as did other singles Tomorrow and Sunrise), and No. 5 on the overall sales chart, while remixes and collaborations with Sander Van Doorn, Funkagenda, Gareth Emery, Weekend Heroes & Ticon, Serge Devant, Jerome Isma-Ae, Kim Fai and Manuel De La Mare are all upcoming. Paul has taken time out of his hectic touring schedule with Global Gathering to hand pick the topics, interviews and mixes for Decoded Magazine with the help from our team. Expect some in-depth articles and a nod to the old skool.
