Like many music fans, I discovered David Granha through his excellent bootleg of Bedrock’s seminal prog classic – Heaven Scent. He was a revelation, and its been with a quiet appreciation that I’ve watched his career flourish. A career which has already seen him crowned as the breakthrough artist of 2011. Since then he has gone on to release over 200 tracks, start his own record label and appear at the best clubs all around the world. This particular release for Alex Nemec’s Mirabilis Records marks not only his debut for the label, but also the 60th release. Set up back in 2009, Mirabilis has always been a quality over quantity label, David of course optimises this with two exciting cuts of melodic techno flavoured goodness.

First up is The Healing Brunette’, kicks off with an energy few are able to carry through a whole track. David however used to make techno and knows how to work in the energy. The track has a feeling of mid 90s progressive/big room behemoth and the piano line at 2.30 is a welcome introduction to the over all melody of Detroit inspired string stabs and creative percussion lines. In fact, this track has many varied Detroit influences including a 909 snare fill, cowbells and acid climax coming out of the break. Go careful with this bad boy, its a hype track of the highest order for the refined floors. Drop it and stand well back!

‘The Blonde On Fresh’ starts oddly with vinyl hiss which gradually gives way to a side chained low pad and interesting FX. This is much more progressive than the first track and features a couple of interesting sound design touches. Think classic Jody Wisternoff or Anjunadeep and you kinda get the idea. Anyway, its amazing, you can expect me to be ending every set I play until ADE with it, its that show stopping!
