Traum Schallplatten can always be relied upon to release high quality music. From techno titans such as Dominik Eulberg, Extrawelt and Minilogue to talented emerging artists like Olaf Stuut, who provides the latest EP, the hugely respected German label are renowned for their innovative techno and electronica releases.

Olaf Stuut is rapidly making a name for himself with his wide ranging and unique sound. The young Dutch producer and live performer has already remixed Minilogue’s “Let Life Dance Thru You” for Traum and has also released music on well respected labels like Atomnation, MNL and many more. Max Cooper is a big supporter of his work and hand picked Olaf to remix “Woven Ancestry” to stunning effect.

First up on the EP is the title track “Spirograph” which has a huge bass that grabs you from the start. Heavy beats and intricate percussion are met with beautiful, soulful synth melodies. Vocal samples are given some great effects and are really well manipulated to bring the track to a glorious, intense peak. A great piece of slow-mo but powerful techno to start the EP.

Next up is “Lithograph” which is a collaboration between Olaf and fellow Dutch artist SQL. SQL, or Pim van Horssen to his friends, has released music on Traum family labels Trapez and MBF and also remixed the title track of Olaf’s album “Equilibrium”, which was released on Manual Music. Pounding beats and snarling bass meet playful, trippy vocal snippets that add a really fun feeling to the track. A blissful atmosphere gradually builds through the track. Lovely music to put you in a happy mood.

A dark, brooding bassline sets the tone for “Shadowgraph”. Heavy beats switch between breaks and regular 4/4 to vary things up nicely as the track progresses. Quirky synths give “Shadowgraph” a dark but really funky feeling. A great example of Olaf’s broad range of influences combined together to create his own unique style. A deep, dark piece of electronica to take you on a cosmic trip.

“Heliograph” is the second collaboration between Olaf and SQL. Light in mood, bleepy synths and tripped out samples give the track a twisted feel that builds to a spaced out break down. A warm, subby bass gives “Heliograph” real power and bright melodies again add a joyful feeling. The two producers combine really well on both collaborations.

Aparde provides the first remix of “Spirograph”. The Berlin based producer has recently released on Stil Vor Talent and has also featured on cool labels such as Grrreat Recordings, Agara Music and Blendwerk. Aparde gives a soft and tender alternative to the original. The subtle pads and synths gently caress your ears and create a gorgeous deep, dreamy atmosphere that really draws you in. Wonderfully deep, sexy, emotional stuff that leaves you gasping for more.

Petar Atmadzhov, aka PHM, completes the EP with his remix of “Spirograph”. The Bulgarian producer has put out lots of great music on Parquet Recordings, Wide Angle Recordings, Inlab and more. PHM gives us a more up tempo version with deep, eerie pads and a warm bassline. This will draw in plenty of deep progressive house fans as well as lovers of avant-garde and intelligent techno. A beautiful breakdown with twinkling piano’s and samples of falling water provide a magic moment in the remix before returning to full dance floor energy.

“Graph” is a great EP with varied and innovative music throughout the release. Top work from everyone involved and I highly recommend you check it out.
